I did not learn of Coaches passing for some time. When I did, it took me off guard but also brought back so many great memories. I was lucky enough to be coached by him for 5 years, be mentored by him while playing at university for 4 years, and then coaching besides him for another 11 years before moving away in 2000. I did not have the chance to see him again since that time, but the lessons learned from him along the way stay with me to this day. As others have said, he could be tough, and he hated losing more than most, but he only enjoyed winning when it came about from hard work and fair play. When you came to know him personally, you always knew that, as much as he loved football, he loved his family even more. These are just some of the things I try to live up to in my own life.
My sincere condolences to his whole family on the loss of this great, wonderful man. I am thankful for all that you shared of him over the years. I am also thankful to have called him not just my Coach, but also my friend. Rest In Peace Coach, and may God bless you always.

So sad to hear that "The Coach" has passed on. He will be remembered as being instrumental to the combining of the Haldimand and Norfolk County High School football teams into one league. I fondly remember our first game at the old Caledonia High School with its 'short' field. Whenever we played against McKinnon Park we always had a well-fought, tough, yet fair-played game. I have fond memories of our time spent at the University of Michigan Football coaches' clinics. Safe journey.

A great leader and mentor who had such a profound impact on so many. Sport was his vehicle to make people better and build community. Like so many, very fortunate to have been taught and coached by Mr. Wilson. Coach Wilson did it like no one else R.I.P.

We would like to express our condolences to the Wilson Family.
Coach Wilson "Woody" had a profound affect on many young people in our community. He was what you would call 'old school' nowadays. He had a way about him...it was clear from the day you met him that he was different. At the time we couldn't really figure out why we loved the guy...he was tough...he made you work....he was different....today we understand what made him different....he truly cared.
He gave a lot to a lot of people....
5-10's, 10-5's........let's get outta here !
RIP Coach

I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing on to the great grid iron in the heavens .I grew up without a father and always looked for a mentor to be like. He was my mentor and my friend and have always held him in deep respect. Even after high school he was always in my thoughts. How one man can impact a young boy and teach him life lessons says a lot for such a man. The last time I saw him was many years ago and he still gave me words of encouragement. Mr Wilson and family I grieve with you as many former players and students will THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR ALL OF US. YOU WILL BE MISSED. May God comfort you and take you in his arms of love. AS for St. Peter at the holy gates, welcome him home for his rest . FOOTBALL!!!!!.......YOU BET!!

Coach Wilson taught me so much, probably more than I am aware of. On my second day of grade 9, he pulled me aside and said “son, you’re going to play football” when I tried to explain to him that I had never played a sport before in my life, he explained to me “I can teach you how to play football, but I can’t teach you how to be big. Try it for a week.” That week on changed my life. I’m now retired from playing, and coaching teams and I can only hope to be half the man Mr. Wilson was. He was one of the first people that taught me how to respect myself, and for that I will be eternally grateful.
Thank you coach, and Rest In Peace.
And to Mr. Wilson’s family - you have people all across this country grieving with you. We are all here for you. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

“Army” as known by the Dunnville football team was a classic. We admired him so much....we smoked pipes because he smoked a pipe. Flattery and love through imitation. You laid a positive foundation for us as young men. RIP Don!!
