We just heard this very very sad news of Walter's passing. Walter lived across the street from my mum, Mildred Hood in Scarborough for many many years. He was always such a caring, friendly and kind neighbour to my mum. In their many conversations over the years, they'd share family stories so mum knew of you Wayne and your closeness as brothers. When your mom was alive, my mum often did baking to give to Walter to take to your mom. In turn, Walter often supplied mum with fresh corn from your farm. Every Christmas, Walter would kindly give mum a lovely box of Laura Secord chocolates, knowing she had such a sweet tooth. Mum would of course have something for Walter too. When mum moved away from Scarborough, 3 years ago, she still kept in contact with Walter usually through Christmas cards. Mum wanted so much to have Walter and another close neighbour couple to her cottage , to show her appreciation for all they did for her while living in Scarborough. Thankfully we did this, and along with mum, my sister and I and our husbands, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon and dinner at her cottage with Walter and them.
We are deeply saddened to just learn of this news Wayne, and want you to know what a special person Walter was to our mom. We deeply appreciate everything he did to keep a watchful eye on our mom when they were neighbours. Sending you our deepest sympathy on such a sad sad loss to you. Linda Sanders (daughter of Mildred Hood, Walter's neighbour on Dorine Cres.)

Walter was a great person who was one of the most hard working and dedicated individuals that I have ever met.
I enjoyed the many years that I spent working with him.
He was a great Leafs and Ti-Cats fan.
Walter always looked forward to his weekly visits back to the farm.
Thinking of his family at this difficult time.

Wayne, I didn't know your brother but from all of the tributes I read he was a kind and caring man and a mentor to many in the world of civil engineering. Know that Walter is at peace in God's care and you are held in your family and friends thoughts and prayers.
My condolences

Wayne - please know that our thoughts, hearts and prayers are with you at this time. We were so very sorry to hear of Walter's passing. As a family who is pretty spread out across Ontario, we were so blessed to have our family reunions to spend time together, and to get updated on everyone's lives. The last one we attended was last year in North Bay and was able to visit with both you and Walter that wonderful afternoon on the water. He will be very much missed, but we will all have those wonderful memories of times spent together at our reunions. We have made the tough decision not to attend the visitation and funeral due to Covid 19, but we hope to be in touch shortly to make alternate arrangements to see you. We will be thinking of you this evening and tomorrow. Sending hugs! Colleen & Tracy Thoburn, Ruth & Tom Talbot and Darryl and Debbie Talbot and our families. xo

My heartfelt condolences to Walter’s family and friends. Walter was one of the sweetest, kindest people I’ve known and a mentor for many. I enjoyed talking with him about farming, projects he was on and hockey. I’m sad today, but fortunate to have known Walter.

My deepest sympathies. Walter was an amazing person. He taught me so much, personally and professionally. Someone I looked up to both inside and outside the office. One quick story: Walter was a pretty big Leafs fan. In 2014, when the Toronto Maple Leafs were to play the Detroit Red Wings outside, as part of the "Winter Classic" in Michigan, Walter offered me his tickets. He knew the game would mean a great deal to my family (father-in-law) - who lived in Windsor. It was the "hottest ticket in town" and we sat centre ice, making a memory, which I'm sure put a smile on Walter's face.
I hope you're still smiling Walter. Rest in peace sir.
